"Butterfly"

The transformation of a butterfly from a caterpillar is nothing short of a miracle.  Having raised dozens of butterflies through this cycle, to watch them nestle up in their cocoon you have to wonder, how do they have the courage to leave their food supply and how do they know when it's time? Yet their reward is the freedom to fly.

God created such an interesting world with messages for us everywhere we look.  I always feel closer to God when I marvel at the beauty he has created.

Sometimes you just have to dream.

When I painted this, owning a sailboat was just a whimsical idea. Just a few years later, that dream became a reality... probably from staring at this painting every day!

Let the wind take you away and feel the cool breeze pull you toward peace.

"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him,
so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit."
-Romans 15:13

This image reminds me of my daughter, who has been gifted with a spirit of joy.

"My Father! If it is possible, let this cup of suffering be taken away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine." -Matthew 26:39

Jesus was fully human, and in the garden of Gethsemane he agonized the anticipation of his death. His plea was human - but he followed through with the cross, acting in obedience and knowing ultimately the joy before him was greater than the suffering....

The joy of knowing he would save you.

The Lion of Judah

This painting is part of my series "The Four Faces of Christ," the Lion, the Ox, the Eagle and the Man. The Four Faces are the four gospels of the good news: Matthew, Mark, Luke & John, which tell the story of Jesus.

The Lion represents the gospel of Matthew, which serves as a witness to the complete authority Jesus had over nature, sickness, evil, sin & death. Instead of using his royal power to control, he used it to serve, sacrificing himself to set us free.

"Sorrow"

"For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven. A time to cry and a time to laugh. A time to grieve and a time to dance." - Ecclesiastes 3: 1,4

If you've ever felt the deep pit of depression, this painting might touch you. If you have not, it might give you a glimpse into the world of a loved one.

God can bring you back from the edge and set you high upon a rock, where he will sing songs over you. Don't give up on life, He can make a new way for you.

The Eagle is a beautiful symbol of wisdom and freedom.

This painting is part of my series "The Four Faces of Christ," the Lion, the Ox, the Eagle and the Man. The Four Faces are the four gospels of the good news: Matthew, Mark, Luke & John, which tell the story of Jesus.

The Eagle represents the gospel of John, which convicts, comforts and brings freedom into the lives of those who seek after God.

"For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven. A time to love and a time to hate. A time for war and a time for peace." - Ecclesiastes 3: 1,8

The battle of good and evil is hidden but very real. Sometimes it takes a war to overcome evil, and it good to know that there is a power greater than ourselves that will overcome evil on our behalf.

Spirit of Life

"Those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint." -Isaiah 40:31

Jesus came to give us life, to reconcile us to the Father, and to set us free from sin and death.  Rise above!
